Siding Installation Day: Homeowner Prep Checklist
Siding installation is a major construction project. This checklist is provided to help you prepare your home and avoid delays, damage, or safety issues on installation day.
Prepare Your Yard
Trim trees, shrubs, and plants near exterior walls before installation day. Cover flower beds and delicate plants near the work area with tarps or drop cloths. Mow the lawn short — short grass makes cleanup easier and safer after installation is complete.
Clear the Exterior Work Areas
Move patio furniture, grills, planters, and outdoor décor away from the home before the crew arrives. Clear the driveway completely the day before installation — material delivery and staging require unobstructed access, and vehicles left in the driveway will need to be moved before work can begin. Keep walkways clear throughout the project for crew and material movement.
Secure the Interior
Siding installation creates vibration throughout exterior walls. Before work begins, take down pictures, mirrors, shelves, and hanging décor on exterior walls. Store breakables in a safe location for the duration of the project.
Children, Pets, and Household
Keep children and pets away from the work area throughout the day — falling debris, tools, and loud noise make the perimeter of the home unsafe during active installation. Let household members know what to expect in terms of noise, access restrictions, and crew movement around the exterior. If pets are likely to be disturbed by the noise, make arrangements in advance.
HOA, Access, and Crew Needs
If your neighborhood has an HOA, notify them of the installation date and confirm compliance with any applicable guidelines before work begins. Ensure exterior electrical outlets are accessible for crew use. If possible, identify a shaded or sheltered area near the home that the crew can use for breaks — siding projects in Central Texas heat run long days.
