The right order depends on what is failing most urgently, but a few rules apply. The roof always goes first if it is compromised — every interior renovation lives or dies by a tight roof. Siding usually goes before windows when both are being replaced, because window flashing integrates with new siding far better than it retrofits into old. Gutters tie to the roof project naturally, often scoped at the same time. Doors can usually go on their own timeline. We map out the sequence during the consultation based on your home’s specific conditions and what you have budget and patience for now versus later.
Should we hire one company for the whole exterior, or specialists for each trade?
There are valid arguments both ways. Specialists may have deeper material-specific knowledge in one trade. Single-company projects mean one accountability chain — the warranty, the coordination between trades, and the responsibility for the integration points where siding meets windows or gutters meet roof all sit with one company. Single-company is also a better fit for phased projects, since the documentation from project one carries forward to project two without re-explaining everything. The trade-off is real, and the right answer depends on the scope and your tolerance for managing multiple contractors.
