Gutter Installation Day: Homeowner Prep Checklist

This checklist is for homeowners who already have a gutter installation scheduled with Cupcake. Gutter installation requires ladder access around the full perimeter of your home and on-site fabrication of seamless runs — a little preparation keeps the day moving safely and without avoidable delays. If you haven’t yet had your evaluation, the gutter appointment page covers what happens before installation day. For the full overview of gutter services in the Greater Austin Metro, see the gutters overview.

Before Installation Day

🌿 Exterior Prep

  • Clear the perimeter — move outdoor furniture, grills, tools, and décor away from exterior walls so ladders can be placed safely at every run
  • Trim vegetation — cut back branches, bushes, and vines near the roofline; vegetation near the fascia interferes with installation and contributes to future clogging
  • Protect landscaping — cover delicate plants or garden beds near the work area with tarps if you have concerns about debris

🚗 Access and Staging

  • Reserve nearby parking — the roll-forming machine that fabricates seamless gutters on site needs to be positioned close to the work area
  • Flag hazards — point out sprinkler heads, uneven ground, tight side yards, and overhead power lines that affect where ladders can be safely placed
  • Confirm access — verify start time, estimated duration, and whether gate or backyard access is needed before installation day

Seamless gutters are fabricated on site from a roll-forming machine — parking and staging space directly impacts how efficiently the crew can work.

🐾 Children and Pets

  • Keep out of the work zone — ladders, tools, and falling debris make the full perimeter unsafe during active installation
  • Secure pets that might bolt — the crew will be moving around the full exterior throughout the day, opening gates and accessing all sides of the home

🌧️ Weather and Timing

  • Check the forecast — gutter installation is weather-dependent; if storms are expected, confirm the reschedule or contingency plan in advance
  • Close nearby windows — reduces noise and debris intrusion if you’ll be home during the installation

What to Expect During the Day

1

Crew Arrival and Fabrication Setup

The crew arrives and positions the roll-forming machine to begin fabricating seamless gutter runs on site. This is unique to seamless gutter installation — the gutters are custom-formed to the exact length of each run rather than assembled from sections.

2

Old Gutter Removal

Existing gutters and hangers are removed before new installation begins. Expect some noise during this phase as old fasteners and sections are pulled. Entryways, sidewalks, and the driveway may be partially blocked at points during removal and staging.

3

Installation and Downspout Placement

New gutters are hung, pitched, and fastened. Downspouts are positioned to discharge water away from the foundation. The crew works around the full perimeter — expect continuous ladder movement and activity at the roofline throughout this phase.

4

Final Walkthrough

We walk through the completed installation with you — confirming gutters are level, securely fastened, and that downspouts are directing water away from the foundation correctly. If you have questions about cleaning frequency or whether gutter guards make sense for your tree cover, this is the right moment to ask. Raise any concerns before the crew leaves.

After Installation

Check after the first significant rain to confirm gutters are flowing correctly and downspouts are discharging as expected. If anything looks off or a concern comes up after the crew has left, contact us early — small issues are easier to address before they develop further. Every installation is covered by our 10-year workmanship warranty, which covers installation quality directly and is separate from the product warranty.
