Siding Installation Checklist
Siding Installation Day: Homeowner Prep Checklist
This checklist is for homeowners who already have a siding installation scheduled with Cupcake. Siding is a major exterior construction project — crews will be working around the full perimeter of your home throughout the day, and there will be noise, vibration, and material activity from start to finish. A little preparation makes the day go smoothly and protects your property. If you haven’t yet had your evaluation, the siding appointment page covers what happens before installation day. For the full overview of siding in the Greater Austin Metro, see the siding overview.
Before Installation Day
🌿 Yard Preparation
- Trim vegetation — cut back trees, shrubs, and plants near exterior walls before the crew arrives
- Protect landscaping — cover flower beds and delicate plants near the work area with tarps or drop cloths
- Mow short — short grass makes post-installation cleanup easier and safer
🏗️ Exterior Work Areas
- Clear the perimeter — move patio furniture, grills, planters, and outdoor décor away from the home
- Clear the driveway completely — material delivery and staging require unobstructed access; do this the day before
- Keep walkways clear — crew and material movement continues throughout the full project day
Vehicles left in the driveway will need to be moved before work can begin — clear it the night before to avoid delays at start time.
🏠 Interior
- Take down wall décor — remove pictures, mirrors, shelves, and hanging items on exterior walls before work begins
- Store breakables — move fragile items away from exterior walls for the duration of the project
Siding installation creates significant vibration throughout exterior walls. Items that normally stay put may not during active installation.
🐾 Children, Pets, and Household
- Keep away from the perimeter — falling debris, tools, and loud noise make the exterior unsafe during active installation
- Plan for noise-sensitive pets — make arrangements before the crew arrives, not after
- Brief household members — let everyone know what to expect in terms of noise, access restrictions, and crew movement
📋 HOA and Access
- Notify your HOA — confirm the installation date and verify compliance with any applicable guidelines before work begins
- Exterior outlets — ensure exterior electrical outlets are accessible for crew use
- Crew comfort — if possible, identify a shaded or sheltered area near the home the crew can use for breaks; siding projects in Central Texas heat run long days
What to Expect During the Day
Crew Arrival and Staging
The installation crew arrives at the scheduled time and begins staging materials along the exterior. Expect the driveway and immediate perimeter to be in active use from the start — this is normal and expected.
Tear-Off — The Loudest Part
Old siding removal is the noisiest phase of the day. The crew works around the full perimeter systematically. If you’d prefer to be out of the home during the loudest portions, plan around the earlier part of the day when tear-off is underway.
Installation
Once the old material is removed, installation begins. The crew moves around the exterior continuously — expect noise, ladder movement, and material activity throughout the day. Vibration in interior walls is normal during this phase.
Cleanup and Final Walkthrough
The crew handles debris removal and site cleanup before closing out. We conduct a final walkthrough with you covering finished edges, trim details, and anything that needs your attention. This is the best time to ask questions while the crew is still on site.
After Installation
Do a visual walk of the full exterior after the crew leaves. If anything looks unclear or doesn’t seem right, contact us early — small issues are easier to address quickly than problems that have had time to develop. Every installation is covered by our 10-year workmanship warranty, which covers installation quality directly and is separate from the manufacturer’s product warranty.
